Online and local co-op make these Nintendo Switch games great for playing with friends, whether they are close by or far away.
It’s become very popular to play games with other people, especially now that almost everyone has a gadget that can link to the internet. Companies that make games have made the most of the internet age by connecting many games to it so that players can play with friends from around the world.
Some people do this to hurt local gaming, since many gamers no longer do the old tradition of “couch play.” Yes, it is seen sometimes, but not all the time. There are even Nintendo Switch games that let you play with other people both online and locally.
Diablo 3
Up to 4 Players
Check out the great Diablo 3 before taking on the task of Diablo 4 and Lilith. It’s available on Switch and has both online and local co-op, so you can play with up to three people.
As players, they can pick one of the set classes and hack and slash their way through the world’s enemies. They are in the middle of a war between angels and demons that has spread to the human realm. Since there is a lot at stake, players should get some friends to help them stay alive.
Mario Party Superstars
Up to 4 Players
Another Nintendo device means another Mario Party game. Mario Party is a board game with a video game feel where players compete in mini-games to earn coins and see who can win. Even though these games are fun, they can be frustrating for people who are losing.
Naturally, these games wouldn’t be as much fun to play by yourself. That’s why Nintendo lets up to 4 people play at the same time, either locally or online, so friends from far away can enjoy the chaos with you.
Mario Kart 8
Up to 12 Players
Mario Kart is one of Nintendo’s most popular and longest-running series. It features characters from the Mario platforming series racing on racetracks that look like places from other Nintendo games. The odds can be evened out by collecting items across the track, and the most feared of these is the blue shell.
Mario Kart 8 is one of many Mario Kart games that can be played on Switch. Other games in the series include characters like Link from the Zelda series and new gameplay elements that long-time players will need to learn. It’s one of the best driving games for Nintendo so far, and up to 11 other people can join in on the fun.
Overcooked 2
Up to 4 Players
This wild and disorganized cooking game made it to Switch, where players have to deal with all the problems that come with running a restaurant and working in a busy kitchen while making food and serving customers before they get tired of waiting and leave. Players don’t have to do it alone, though. They can ask their friends to help and split up the work.
Overcooked 2 is a modern game that lets players set up an online room to play with friends who live far away or local co-op with friends who can jump on the couch and join the fun. Players will have a fun and wild time if they choose to work together.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Up to 8 Players
Animal Crossing is one of the most relaxing games out there. It lets players escape the chaos of modern life and enjoy the simple joys of island life, like planting trees and flowers, searching for hidden riches, swimming, fishing, and, of course, hanging out with other islanders.
Aside from neighbors, players can also visit their friends’ islands or have friends over to show off how hard they worked to make their island look nice. This can be done online or in person, so they can show off their beautiful island to friends near and far.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Up to 8 Players
The third and scariest Luigi’s Mansion game came out for the Nintendo Switch. It was a new scary adventure where Luigi’s holiday was cut short when he arrived at a hotel full of ghosts. Once more, Luigi needs to get a Hoover and get rid of the annoying ghosts that ruined his holiday.
People don’t have to go into the game alone, though. Once the player gets the Gooigi from Professor E. Gadd, they will be able to play through the Story Mode with a friend. You can only play this mode with local co-op, but you can play other game types online. For example, up to eight people can work together to climb the building in the Scarescraper game.
Splatoon 2
Up to 10 Players
This is the second Splatoon game, which came out with a bang on Nintendo Switch. It takes place two years after the final Splatfest of the first game, where Marie beat her niece Callie. They become less close, which makes Marie worry about Callie. But when she goes to see Callie to talk about the Splatfest, she and the power source for the city are gone.
In Splatoon 2, there is a Hero Mode where the player must save the Zapfish while beating off Octarians. They can also set up a local or online multiplayer mode to play with friends or against them, letting more people enjoy the fast-paced third-person gun action.
Nine Parchments
Up to 4 Players
Nine of the paper spells are cast into the world when an explosion happens at a place called the Astral Academy. The students of the Academy must go searching for and getting these spells. This is how Nine Parchments works. It’s a fantasy role-playing game that’s great for playing with friends.
The game has a mode where you can play by yourself, but it’s really meant to be played with friends. You can choose from nine different game characters, so there should be one that everyone in the group likes. Within the adventure mode, players follow the main story and fight waves of enemies and bosses as they look for the parchments. In the arena mode, players do their best to stay alive as waves of enemies come at them.
Arms
Up to 4 Players
Arms is a simple fighting game that focuses on arms. Each fighter starts with three different Arms that they can use to hit their opponent with long punches and jabs. Fighting games are fun, and they’re even more fun when played with friends.
Arms, as assumed, allows both local and online multiplayer, so players can fight with their friends no matter how far away they are. In the Versus mode, players can fight each other. In other game modes, like Snake Game, players work together to fight computer-controlled attackers.
Super Mario Maker 2
Up to 4 Players
This game is for people who have ever played a Mario game and wished they had the tools and resources to make their own level. The player’s imagination can grow even more with this update. Players can also download other people’s courses and compare their game skills to those of the people who made the courses.
So, yes, Super Mario Maker 2 does allow online play, and in fact, that’s what the game is mostly about. Players can get classes and then ask their friends and family to join them for a classic couch co-op game.
Super Bomberman R
Up to 8 Players
Emperor Buggler, who is evil, has brought back to life five robots called the Five Dastardly Bombers to serve as his new bodyguards. He then proudly announced his plans to take over the world. When White, the bomber, sees the report, he forces his brothers to help him in his mission to stop Buggler and his army. This is where the player comes in. They need to stop Buggler’s plans, but they don’t have to do it by themselves.
Super Bomberman R is the latest game in the long-running Bomberman series. It supports both local and online co-op, so players can bring their friends to save the world, just like White does with his family. The game has modes where two or more people can work together, like Grand Prix, where three-person teams compete to see who is the best.
